General Notes: SURN Plaisted GIVN George Wheeler _UID 0C67249E00EBD411873694776189044500AA Attended Worcester public schools and graduated from the South High School in June, 1910. He entered Worcester Polytechnic Institue the following September, and graduated with honors in June, 1915. He was also employed for a time by the Big Four Railroad, working out of cincinnati, but he later found more satisfactory employment with the Austin Company at Philadelphia and continued with that company until the entry of the United States into the World Ward, when he passed an examination for a lieutenancy, junior grade, in the Havy, as a civil engineer, became Lieutenant Senior Grade shortly thereafter, and served under the Bureau of yards and Docks until after the end of the War. He was assigned to the Puget Sound Navy yard at Bremerton, Washington in August, 1917, and continued there until September, 1921, when he was transferred to Pensacola, Florida as Public Works Officer. He resigned his commission in May, 1922 to return to the Austin Company as District Manager in the States of Oregon, Washington, and idaho and the Territory of Alaska, where he was made Vice President by the Austin Company in 1926. During this period, following his return to the Northwest, he resided in Seattle, Washington. With the reduction of business that followed the beginning of the depression, the area under his supervision was increased until in 1933 he was supervising the operations of the Austin Company in the three Pacific Coast States, some of the Rocky Mountains, Alaska, hawaii, British Columbia and Lower California (Mexico), with the title of Vice President and Pacific Cost Manager.
