In September of the same year he entered Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and graduated with the degree B.S. in Civil Engineering in June, 1912. He was employed from the time of his graduation until 1922 by the Big Four Railroad, subsidiary of the New York Central Lines. During that time he lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. Early in 1922 he and his younger brother, George W. formed a partnership to deal in building supplies and building contracts in association with the austin Company of Cleveland, Ohio, but this arrangement was terminated after some months and both brothers were thereafter employed directly by the Austin Company, Frank as Resident Manager in Portland, Oregon. In this connection he established a residence in Portland, Oregon, where he lived with his family until January, 1936. After the development of the depression he was employed for some time as Managing Director of Relief (including C.W.a. and F.E.R.A.) in Portland, as the business of the Austin Company diminished, and ultimately was obliged to sever his connection with that company and take a position with the Iron Fireman Manufacturing Company of Portland, by which he was established in the spring of 1936 as Manager of its New York Branch, whose office and mechanical shop are located in Brooklyn.
